Challenge

Newberry County Memorial Hospital is licensed as a 90-bed facility and is located about 45 minutes northwest of the state capital, Columbia, SC. The hospital has a strong commitment to quality, and is ranked among the top 10 percent nationally for quality patient care. Accreditation by The Joint Commission requires a triennial on-site survey which ensures the most updated, evidence-based standards of patient care. Starting in September 2020, Newberry was in the Joint Commission survey window. It was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Newberry leaders sought survey readiness and ultimately accreditation.

Cadence Clinical Services’ Solutions

In March and April, Cadence leaders spent three days onsite, performing a mock survey of the hospital, the wellness and rehabilitation centers and doctor’s offices. Cadence identified a number of opportunities to strengthen current practices in advance of the July 2021 Joint Commission survey, and shared solutions that could be quickly implemented.

Results

The Joint Commission survey of Newberry was a success, and the hospital remains accredited.
